MSHYB operates a recreational baseball league for girls and boys between the ages of 6 and 12, who are in at least first grade.

Our league is structured based on a combination of age and baseball ability and experience, with a focus on balancing safety, competitiveness and fun.

Players are placed with teams based on their ability and experience, and have the opportunity to "play up" at higher levels via a call-up system modeled on professional baseball organizations.

Teams are organized into a chain system, which is described below.

For more advanced players seeking higher levels of competition, MSHYB also offers a travel baseball program.

League Structure

MSHYB is organized into divisions (leagues) based on age and grade.

The age/grade based divisions are made up of 6 teams each.

As the players grow, they move up to increasingly advanced levels of play, culminating with either the Southern League or Northern League for 10, 11 and 12 year olds.

Players that are eligible (new players in 3rd grader or older, players that previously played in the ACL (developmental league) or experienced first and second graders are invited to player evaluations in January to determine appropriate placement for the spring season. If deemed appropriate, players are placed in chains. The chain provides continuity for the kids as they advance. Once assigned a chain, players will typically (but are not required to) stay with that chain.

The chains each have a Chain Manager, and each team has several parent coaches, one of whom acts as the team Manager. Each team also has one or more Team Parents.
